TunnelBear VPN Secures Your Web Traffic
In today’s modern world, you can do a lot of activities online. Not only can you use the internet for logging in to your social media accounts, but you can also use it for online banking, purchasing products, file sharing, or streaming music, movies, and TV shows. However, most websites and apps would require you to create an account and ask for personal information such as your name and contact details. For paid services, you would also have to input bank or credit card information. While passwords and log-in details can add a bit of security to your accounts, your data may still be subject to malicious online activities, especially if you’re using public Wi-Fi. In this case, you need an extra layer of protection to make sure your personal information doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. A VPN, or virtual private network, will prevent this from happening.
TunnelBear VPN provides VPN services that enable you to use the internet while avoiding ways cybercriminals may intercept or collect your private data.
About TunnelBear VPN
TunnelBear VPN was incorporated in the United States in 2011, but its headquarter is in Canada. In 2018, McAfee, a global anti-virus company, acquired TunnelBear VPN.
How Does TunnelBear VPN Work?
TunnelBear VPN lets you connect to the internet and enjoy a private connection using their VPN service. When your device has the VPN app running, all your data is encrypted and transmitted to a secure tunnel. It cannot be accessed by hacking tools and software used by hackers or monitoring authorities. It can also make your geographical location anonymous so you can access geo-restricted websites.
Pricing and Subscription Plans
TunnelBear VPN offers a free version for you to try their VPN service before you decide whether you want to subscribe to a paid plan. The trial version only allows 500 BM of secure browsing.
There are two types of paid subscription plans.
The Unlimited Plan is sub-divided into three paid options. You can select the one-month plan for $9.99, the one-year plan for $59.88 ($4.99 per month), or the three-year plan for $120.00 ($3.33 per month). These plans include unlimited secure browsing, five connected devices, and priority customer service.
For businesses and teams with more than two users, they offer Teams, which cost $5.75 per month. This plan includes unlimited secure browsing, five connected devices per user, a dedicated account manager, and centralized billing and management. They also let you try this plan for free for seven days.
Payments may be made via credit card, bitcoin, or Amex.

Strong Encryption
TunnelBear VPN uses AES256-bit as the default encryption. They have OpenVPN protocol for Android, macOS, and Windows. They also use IKEv2 as a protocol for iPhone app and Windows and macOS clients.
VigilantBear
This feature is similar to the Kill Switch. The VigilantBear feature keeps browsing activities secure and private when you temporarily lose connection to the VPN, which may happen if you switch Wi-Fi networks or become out of range. It automatically reconnects your device as soon as it detects the internet. This feature is currently available for Windows, macOS, and Android devices running Lollipop 5.0 or later. Do note that VigilantBear won’t run if your device is on a custom proxy, so make sure that all other security apps are disabled before running VigilantBear.
GhostBear
GhostBear is a feature you can use if you are unable to connect your device to a TunnelBear VPN server. TunnelBear VPN doesn’t recommend connecting both to a TunnelBear server and GhostBear at the same time as it will make connection speed slower or not work at all. This feature is available in Windows, macOS, and Android apps, but not yet in iOS.
