Drones came from being vehicles of military awe and power to the plaything of the average user. In the drone market, you can find drones for under twenty dollars to detect objects around it and easily navigate a path using its AI. It can also hover silently in its place, or you can use a remote to fly them. However, the drone toy market does not attract all the talent in the drone production industry. Out-of-the-box thinking entrepreneurs are developing drones that are useful for industrial applications, and the demand for that is just opening up. There is an increasing demand for industrial drones in agriculture, fishing, mining, production, etc.
When we talk about using drones for essential tasks such as mission planning and that too on an industrial level, another aspect is equally important. That aspect is the software or the AI technology working behind the hardware, and most people do not give it the attention that it deserves. Without having software that analyzes and satisfactorily presents the data, using such high-tech equipment is of no use either. Keeping this significance in mind, one of the greatest producers of drones at the moment, DJI, came up with a comprehensive and effective solution, the DJI Terra.
Is the DJI Terra drone user friendly?
As much as the drones, the software rolled out by DJI is being lauded and appreciated by drone users. Professionals and amateurs can easily use the software with an advanced graphic user interface (GUI) that enables a quick summary of essential data points. It has become the first choice of architects and engineers who are using them to complete their tasks. The DJI Terra has been of extensive value due to its outstanding features, which have made things easier for them.
Numerous Mission Planning Options
The DJI Terra is known as the all-in-one software because it has various options to cater to different professions and industries’ needs. You can plan a mission based on four different types, namely:
- Waypoints Mission Planning
- Area Mission Planning
- Oblique Mission Planning
- Corridor Mission Planning
Each of the types serves for a different purpose and allows the professionals to carry out other tasks. For instance, the waypoint mission planning enables the pilot to fly the drone within various preset waypoints. This feature helps security officials and agencies keep a check on the area without much effort. Similarly, the rest of the mission types perform particular tasks, assisting in different missions.
Uncanny Ease
When one hears the word software, they automatically think of complex computer screens, programming languages, etc. It, however, is not the truth. The DJI Terra is a very user-friendly software that is easily comprehendible and flexible and compatible with different systems. The interface is amicable, and it does not take long before a newbie gets the knack of it. Moreover, the coordinates, maps, and pictures captured via the software can be exported in any format, making the data compatible with different devices and operating systems.
The King of Mapping
Even though there are countless other great features present in the DJI Terra, one that sets it apart is mapping possibilities. To better understand how Mapping works on the device, you can divide it into two parts; 3-dimensional and 2-dimensional.
3D Mapping
Some of the most remarkable features as far as 3D Mapping include; Real-time 3D Point Cloud and 3D reconstruction. The former allows you to map a specific area and check the completeness of a particular project in that area. Moreover, it could also be used to plan 3D flights. As far as the reconstruction feature is concerned, it is thought of as one of the best features of the software as a whole, as it helps virtually constructing a particular object and structure. It is supported by complex constructions algorithms such as the one based on CUDA.
2D Mapping
Reconstruction is an option not just available in the 3D model, but also in the regular 2D. With the assistance of high-definition visuals, you will get a clearer picture of proposed changes in the site. Likewise, the multispectral reconstruction interests the agriculturists in particular as they can get the visuals of their farms and lands in various modes such as the NDVI and NDRE.
The presence of good software is as significant as the ownership of a suitable drone. Therefore, to get the full use of your high-tech, valuable drone, you must use the DJI Terra, which will make things easier for you.

I wonder if this particular drone could be used in mining. Could it?
Harrison
I don’t see why not but you can always send them a message asking about this. You can use mission planning and tell it where to go and what to do. Or maybe there’s a better model suited for mining.
Greyson
The mission planning options alone are breathtaking on the DJI Terra. No wonder more and more professionals from different industries have started using it.

I’m studying urban planning, I’m in my first year, and my teacher already announce that we will learn to interact with drones over the next months because they will play a huge part in our future job.

DJI Terra would be a great drone to use for this but I recommend you start off with a cheaper drone. Why? Because you’re going to hit it, crash it and you don’t want to waste a lot of money. With a cheap drone, it doesn’t matter if you crash it, you’ll just get another.

DJI Terra is somewhat cheaper than Pix4D and DroneDeploy and considering it’s a new contender in this field I think it holds its ground pretty well.

I feel like I’ve just landed in a SF movie script. I use my Mavic Mini mostly when I’m traveling – not so much lately – but I never in my wildest dreams imagined this is even possible.

This is just the tip of the iceberg! Drones are used in so many fields, from emergency response, animal conservation, healthcare and waste management to urban planning. Some hotels even used them to deliver room service quickly #freakinamazing

One of my cousins, who is a huge robotics freak, has a class where they experiment with drones. They take them apart, learn how they work and then they puzzle them up, making them functional again.

Waah, I’ve always been amazed by the products DJI brings to the world. DJI Terra sounds like a great buy, hope they make a Christmas deal on this or something, I would definitely go and purchase this. Thank you for making a informative and fair review on this product. As someone who reads reviews a lot, I appreciate it.
